- Confirm the door is properly latched. The door interlock sensor prevents the machine from spinning if it detects the door isn't fully closed. Push the door firmly until you hear a click. On Hotpoint and Beko models, the latch can develop wear that isn't obvious from the outside but is enough to fool the sensor.
- Observe what the drum is actually doing. Listen and watch during the spin cycle. A drum that doesn't move at all points to a different fault than one that spins slowly but never reaches speed, or one that starts then stops. Narrow down the symptom before anything else.
- Read the error codes. Samsung, LG, Bosch, and most modern machines display fault codes on the front panel when something goes wrong. Note the code down and check the manual or the manufacturer's website. Codes like E3 or F5 often identify the fault type directly and save you diagnostic time.
